Teen Skincare, Referrals, Support and Treatment

If you are a teenager, the parent, carer, or guardian of a teenager and you are struggling to get appropriate treatment for problem skin conditions, acne and acne scarring, warts and verrucas, excessive sweating, the management of scars from self-harm, or other troublesome skin disorders, the Blemish Clinic can help. We deliver private, self-, and GP-lead referrals to our dermatology specialist team and are CQC registered to treat teenagers.

Caring for teenagers and their skin including treating self-harm scars

As a specialist, dermatology-focused clinic, registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), we can privately treat children aged 14+ for a variety of skin concerns. Our multi-disciplinary team is ready and waiting to take on challenging dermatological cases, and sensitive referrals that may have struggled to get a solution through primary care routes, or where treatment options have been limited due to NHS constraints.

Treatment is approached with care, discretion, and above all support to help the young person on their journey towards resolving the problem and improving their life and self-confidence.

FAQs

The Blemish Clinic is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator for independent clinics and hospitals in England. We are certified to treat disease, disorder, or injury, carry out surgical procedures and perform diagnostic and screening procedures, and can treat children and teenagers aged 14+.

Teenagers and young people can present with many of the same dermatological skin problems that we see in adults, it is just a case that the onset was sooner. Of course, other skin problems affecting teens can be more sensitive, relating to abuse or self-harm.

At this critical time in an individual’s development, and when relationships and forming friendships can be so character-forming, it is important to address skin problems that have an impact on the psychosocial behaviour of the young person, especially where it reduces their self-confidence and leads to isolation.

At Blemish Clinic, we can treat many skin problems affecting teenagers, including, but not limited to:

  • Acne and acne scarring, including severe cases of cystic and pustular acne
  • Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary), under the feet (plantar), and the palms of the hands (palmar)
  • Warts, verrucas (verrucae), molluscum contagiosum, and other viral skin conditions
  • Benign skin lesions or abnormal skin growths including moles, cysts, and lipomas
  • Pigmentation problems including birth marks
  • Hypertrophic scarring, including scarring caused by self-harming practices of cutting the skin
  • Keloid scarring because of skin trauma

We have significant experience, as a multi-disciplinary team that includes doctors, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and specialist nurses, of managing complex dermatology cases with teenagers and young people, some of whom may have caused trauma to their skin through self-harm, been a victim of an abuser, or involved in other traumatic circumstances.

We also manage many cases of young people who have been severely afflicted by a medical condition such as excessive sweating or severe acne, to the point that is has a serious effect on their mental health, self-esteem, and day-to-day lives.

We offer a discrete, private service that will be conducted in consultation with the parents, carers, or guardians of the teenager, alongside engagement with their GP and any other primary healthcare providers, to ensure that we create an agreeable treatment plan that can provide the potentially life-changing results required to resolve the skin condition, scarring, sweating, birth mark, or other dermatological concern.

We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
