Profhilo is revolutionary when it comes to cosmetic injectable treatments, but it is important to note that is it not the same as other products you may see advertised for anti-ageing. It is not a dermal filler, skin booster or biorevitaliser but is a new class of injectable – a bio-remodelling injectable product. It spreads and integrates within the face, rather than remaining in deposits to contour or lift wrinkles as is the case with dermal fillers.

Profhilo has one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) found in any cosmetic injectable and consists of a hybrid complex of low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid made using NAHYCO® technology that stabilises the product using heat, rather than chemical additives. It is used to address skin laxity and improve skin quality in the face, neck, and hands.

Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our skin, it attracts water to our cells to help with hydration and wound healing, but as we age, we produce much less HA daily, so skin loses its plump nature, and firmness and elasticity is weakened.

Profhilo provides a dual action within the skin, thanks to it hybrid make up – something the makers call the HydroLift Action – which means that skin is hydrated and stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin via the low molecular weight HA while also supported and lifted with a dermal scaffold created by the presence of the high molecular weight HA. We told you it was revolutionary.

Profhilo can be used to treat:

• Smokers’ lines and fine lines around the mouth
• Under eye wrinkles
• Fine lines around the eyes
• Crepey and thin neck skin
• Wrinkly cheeks
• Crepey hands

We use a specific injection pattern for the optimal delivery of Profhilo into the skin and you will require two treatment sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. The first aims to kick start the stimulation required for bio-remodelling and the second is a booster to ensure longevity of the action and the associated results. If your initial skin quality is very poor, you may benefit from an additional (third) treatment that usually happens 8 weeks after the second session.

To maintain your results, we recommend further booster treatments with Profhilo every 6 months.

Profhilo is suitable for both women and men and usually most appropriate for those over 30 years of age. The treatment is ideal for patients whose skin has started losing its natural firmness and elasticity due to the ageing process, however smoking, stress and environmental factors may also impact on skin health.

If you are generally in good health there are few reasons why you would not be suitable for Profhilo treatment, however, a full medical history will be taken to discuss any underlying health conditions, past cosmetic treatments, and medications that may contraindicate treatment with Profhilo.

If you have any active infections (viral, fungal, bacteria etc.), feel unwell, or have any active skin conditions at the time of treatment, you will not be suitable to commence treatment with Profhilo until these are resolved.

If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will also not be suitable for treatment and will be asked to wait.

The Profhilo treatment is delivered via several injection points. These do not generally hurt in themselves and the product spreads quickly within the tissue with no resistance; discomfort is usually mild and well tolerated, thus numbing cream or topical anaesthesia is not usually needed but can be given. However, you may experience a brief stinging sensation as the product is the delivered into the skin.

After the treatment, there can be some tenderness for the first 24-72 hours.

Profhilo is made from hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural component of the skin; it uses a highly pure grade form of HA and due to the manufacturing process, which stabilises it with heat, there is an absence of additives that might be present in other HA-based injectables, thus reactions and complications are much rarer.

Following treatment, you may experience some mild pain, redness, swelling or bruising at the injection points, or small lumps which subside after 4-6 hours, with everything resolving after a day or so. We always recommend that you give us a call if you are concerned about any prolonged side effects after a treatment.

You can return to work and your normal activities after Profhilo treatment. However, we do advise you to avoid wearing make-up, except for Youngblood mineral make-up, which we can apply in clinic after your treatment.

We also recommend that you do not go to the gym, sauna, steam-room or go swimming on the same day as treatment or have any other cosmetic procedures for 48 hours.

You should also avoid touching the injection site to minimise any risk of infection and avoid the sun if any bruising or prolonged swelling occurs.

This depends on each individual and how their skin reacts to the bio-remodelling stimulation from Profhilo.

Because it is not a dermal filler, there will be no immediate result after treatment, however improvements in skin quality will start to show a week or two after treatment and will increase over a period of 4-6 weeks after your second session of Profhilo.

The improvements in your skin’s quality, elasticity, and firmness are expected to last 6-9 months and we usually recommend a half yearly maintenance treatment to ensure your results continue to look their best and to encourage your skin to keep creating new collagen to maintain a refreshed and more youthful look.
