Skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth and localised fat reduction
Pioneered by the French physician Dr Michel Pistor in 1952, Mesotherapy is a term to describe a technique and treatment that involves multiple micro-injections to deliver active, therapeutic ingredients such as vitamins directly into the skin.
Delivering active therapeutic ingredients to the skin via multiple micro-injections
Mesotherapy is popular in cosmetic therapy for skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth and localised fat reduction.
At Blemish Clinic, we use a variety of targeted serums and active ingredients, including the RRS range, that can be delivered using a mesotherapy technique to ensure that they get to work within the optimum layer of the skin.

"Jan is one of the top providers of Medical Aesthetic Nurse services in the UK today. It has been my privilege to have been her patient recently, and her knowledge and care was exemplary. I am thrilled with the result, which was given following full consultation and using complete aseptic technique. Definitely a clinic to recommend."
FAQs
Mesotherapy was pioneered as a medical injection technique in the 1950s by a French physician called Dr Michel Pistor. It has been recognised in France as a specialty of medicine since 1987.
The technique uses lots of micro-injections to deliver small volumes of tailored, active, and therapeutic ingredients just below the surface of the skin, into the middle layer or mesoderm, across a larger area, such as the face, scalp, décolletage etc. The ingredients used are often referred to as mesotherapy cocktails or mesotherapy serums because they feature several active components combined into one injectable liquid, these often include pharmaceutical preparations or prescription medicines, plant extracts, vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, enzymes etc.
As well as the presence of the active ingredients, the stimulation from the needle, and the placement within the mesoderm all help to increase blood circulation, stimulate new collagen production, and wake up the body to direct a healing response to the area treated. This could be to address skin rejuvenation, stimulate hair growth, or reduce fatty deposits.
At Blemish Clinic, we use a range of bespoke serums and ingredients from the RRS range manufactured by a Spanish company (Skin Tech Pharma) to deliver targeted actives and treat many conditions.
Mesotherapy, whether for skin rejuvenation, pigmentation control, or hair treatment is usually given as a course of treatment, this varies and can range from 2-3 sessions in combination with other treatments, or 6-8 in isolation. Some treatments may require more. Sessions are usually spaced between 2-4 weeks apart.
A programme of treatments, including the specific serums and active ingredients required to address your particular concern will be discussed with our experienced practitioner, specialist consultant nurse, Jan Birch who has many years of experience treating a multitude of dermatological skin concerns.
Mesotherapy, as a technique can also be used to deliver Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy alongside bespoke serums, and the treatment can also be combined effectively with other aesthetic treatments, for example, LED and photodynamic light therapies, prescribed skincare, or skin peels to achieve optimum improvements in skin health.
When determining your suitability for mesotherapy treatment, we will evaluate the skin concern and problem you are trying to resolve, alongside the appropriate active ingredients required to achieve the goal. Mesotherapy is the injection technique, but the exact treatment will differ per individual.
You will firstly have a consultation which will include a full medical history to determine if there are any underlying medical conditions, medications, or allergies that would make you unsuitable for treatment. There are very few reasons why an otherwise healthy person will not be suitable for mesotherapy treatment.
If you have an open wound or active infection in the area to be treated, such as a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, you will need appropriate medical treatment to clear that before we can commence mesotherapy treatment.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will not be suitable for mesotherapy treatment.
Most patients who have mesotherapy treatment at Blemish Clinic do not require any numbing cream or topical anaesthetic because the needles used are very fine and they only enter just under the skin’s surface where pain receptors are less sensitive; in fact, many don’t feel it at all.
However, if you are concerned or at all sensitive to needles, then we can offer you a numbing cream to mitigate any sensations from the needles.
Mesotherapy is a very safe treatment technique having been used in many cosmetic and medical applications for decades. We ensure that we use quality, and approved serums and active ingredients that are suitable for delivery via mesotherapy.
As with all injectable treatments, you should expect some mild redness in the area injected for up to 24 hours, and it may be sensitive to touch. The injection technique used for mesotherapy is very superficial, meaning that it only just goes into the top few millimetres of the skin layer; you may therefore see small bumps called blebs where the serums have been injected under the surface. These will slowly go down as they are absorbed into the skin layers, the time taken will depend on the ingredients delivered.
There is little to no downtime with mesotherapy, and you can return to your normal activities immediately.
The results from mesotherapy come from a combination of the injection technique which impacts on the placement of active ingredients, alongside the specific ingredients we combine into a serum cocktail to use to target your skin concern – whether that is anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation, pigmentation control, or hair loss. Mesotherapy treatment will result in an improvement in skin tone and texture, bringing back the glow, improving hydration and skin firmness, as well as lightening any pigmentation concerns and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Treatment protocols vary and results from a course of treatment are expected to last between 2-4 months.
Just as you would take regular nutritional supplements or oral vitamins, mesotherapy can be viewed as a regular supplementation treatment for your skin, thus, to maintain skin health, we recommend regular appointments for a top-up with appropriate active ingredients, alongside advice on a suitable skincare regime. Mesotherapy may form part of a wider treatment plan to target your specific skin condition.
We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
Mesotherapy treatment is a non-surgical, cosmetic solution aimed at diminishing problem areas in your face and body such as: ageing and skin rejuvenation, pigmentary concerns, cellulite, small fatty deposits, and in replenishing hair loss in both men and women.
Mesotherapy involves the delivery of active substances or ingredients, in small quantities, to the site requiring treatment by directly injecting them using a micro-injection technique.
Results from mesotherapy vary per patient depending on the condition being treated, although you can expect to see improvements in the health of the area, with increased blood circulation, renewed skin cells and hair growth, and a reduction in your original concern. Appropriate lifestyle and aftercare guidance will be provided to optimise your results.
Expect treatment to take approximately 45 minutes. You will require several sessions as part of a mesotherapy treatment programme.
A fine needle is used for the mesotherapy technique; however, a numbing cream can be applied to the area to remove any discomfort during treatment. The area may feel sensitive for 24 hours following treatment.
No recovery time is required following mesotherapy treatment and you can return to work and your normal activities immediately afterwards.
