Mesotherapy, PRP and micro-needling for hair restoration
Hair loss and hair thinning can be profoundly upsetting for both men and women, affecting quality of life and self-confidence, especially in social situations and working life. A variety of treatment options are now available using active ingredients combined with mechanical action to increase blood circulation in the scalp and improve scalp health, helping to stimulate hair growth, and replenish lost hair thickness.
Hair loss and hair thinning treatments
Both men and women can suffer from hair loss or hair thinning caused by factors including genetics and hormonal changes, medications, stress, or the impact of certain hair styles. A loss of hair can be a traumatic experience, but you need not suffer in silence.
At Blemish Clinic, we use a variety of evidence-based treatments for hair restoration, and often combine them into a bespoke programme of treatments for optimal results. These include mesotherapy serums for hair restoration, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy in combination with red LED light, and scalp micro-needling with Rejuvapen.

Hair Loss Treatment FAQs
Hair grows from hair follicles all over the body with the visible majority being on the scalp of the head. The hair on your head grows by approximately 6 inches or 15 centimetres per year and the average adult head is made up of 100,000-150,000 hairs. We naturally lose around 50-100 hairs per day.
Each hair is going through its own hair growth cycle, and at any one time, around 90% of the hair on your head is in a growing phase. The anagen stage is the active hair growth stage and this lasts 2-8 years, the catagen stage is a transitional stage lasting 2-3 weeks, and is followed by the telogen or resting stage, that lasts 2-3 months. It is at the end of the resting stage that the hair will be shed, and a new hair is waiting in its place to start another growth cycle again. Each hair follicle has a unique life cycle, hence why you can experience hair loss in some spots but not others, and this can be influenced by your age, health, and other factors. As we age, the rate of hair growth also slows down.
Hair loss affects both men and women and can be caused by many factors including genetics (hair loss is often hereditary), hormonal changes, stress, illness or medical conditions, trauma, medication, autoimmune disorders, poor diet, weight loss or vitamin and mineral deficiencies, pregnancy and childbirth, or mechanical action upon the hair from certain hair styles.
Hair loss can be upsetting and impact on a person’s quality of life, their confidence and ability to interact in social situations or in the work environment.
At Blemish Clinic, we can discuss options in a medical consultation and can treat a variety of conditions that result in hair loss or hair thinning, including but not limited to:
- Involutional alopecia (natural hair thinning due to ageing where the hair growth cycle is predominantly resting and hair appears sparce and poor in nature),
- Androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness – often permanent hair loss that can be addressed with hair transplant surgery (not available at Blemish Clinic), however, we can use hair restoration treatments to encourage the continued healthy growth of transplanted grafts following hair transplant surgery, or as an option to improve scalp health, before you consider surgical intervention,
- Alopecia areata (an autoimmune disorder that causes patchy hair loss),
- Traction alopecia (usually caused by tight hair styles such as ponytails, braids, and weaves),
- Telogen effluvium (a common type of temporary hair loss in women that causes hair thinning and hair shedding usually after a traumatic event or stress),
- Anagen effluvium (temporary hair loss due to medication, most noted with chemotherapy treatment),
- Trichotillomania (hair loss caused by hair pulling, often linked to psychological behaviours and trauma).
Symptoms of hair loss can include sudden or gradual changes in hair shedding such as slow thinning, the appearance of circular or patchy spots of hair loss, or sudden hair loosening because of physical or emotional shock.
We offer a variety of treatments for hair restoration, that can be used alone or in combination to target individual causes and severity of hair loss or hair thinning.
Mesotherapy delivery of bespoke serums and active ingredients (B vitamins, peptides, antioxidants etc.) from the Aesthetic Dermal® and XL Hair® ranges manufactured by a Spanish company (Skin Tech Pharma) to deliver targeted actives designed to improve hair strength and growth by stimulating cells within the hair follicles. Treatments are combined with pre- and post-treatment products to use at home.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy using growth factor rich plasma collected from a sample of your own blood that is reinjected into the scalp to supply targeted healing cells to the scalp to encourage hair follicle stimulation.
Mechanical stimulation and the penetration of active ingredients into the scalp can also be achieved using micro-needling with our automated Rejuvapen system.
Treatments are often performed in combination with sessions of red LED light from Light Emitting Diodes using our Omnilux system. Red light is proven to encourage better blood circulation and aid in healing.
It is important for us to fully assess your hair loss to determine the severity, the root cause, and the type of hair loss or hair thinning so we can recommend an appropriate treatment programme. You will be given a thorough consultation with our medical staff, including a full medical history to determine if there are any underlying medical conditions, recent trauma, allergies, or medications that are influencing your hair loss, or which can contraindicate with any of the proposed treatments.
Hair loss affects both men and women and we ensure that the treatments we offer for hair restoration are suitable for both. A combination of treatments is often used to achieve the best results.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will not be suitable for hair restoration treatments. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and after childbirth can affect hair growth, so we advise that treatment is delayed until after this period in your life, and to avoid any potential harm to your infant.
The treatments offered for hair restoration including mesotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, scalp micro-needling with the Rejuvapen, and red LED light are all well tolerated and not regarded as painful.
Your comfort is important to us, so we can offer numbing agents if required.
After treatment, you can expect some tenderness and mild swelling to the scalp, alongside some redness, which will resolve quickly.
Hair regeneration can take some time and is dependent on the growth cycles of individual hair follicles, however, with improved circulation, controlled and targeted mechanical trauma which encourages a healing response in the body, alongside infiltration of active ingredients, growth factors, or platelets, and light stimulation, patients will start to see improvements in hair thickness, strength, and health with a few months.
The extent of your results will depend on the severity of the hair loss and the underlying causes.
Ageing and hormonal changes can all continue to influence hair health, but improvements in hair growth will be long-lasting, while the hair follicles remain active in your scalp. We recommend top-up treatments to maintain stimulation to the hair follicles which encourages them to remain healthy and functioning optimally.
We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
A variety of treatments that employ active ingredients within serums or naturally derived blood products, mechanical stimulation using needles, and LED light are used to stimulate hair regrowth and improve the health of the scalp and hair follicles.
Mechanical action and light stimulate the scalp and increase blood circulation and cell turnover within the skin and hair follicles, alongside the infusion of targeted ingredients or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) that trigger natural.
With a healthier scalp and stimulation to the hair follicles, hair will start to grow with improved strength, thickness, and the treatment can stimulate hair regrowth after hair loss. Each patient is different, and it will depend on the underlying causes of the hair loss or hair thinning.
Treatment uses a combination of needle-based applications (mesotherapy, micro-needling, or PRP), alongside the application of LED light, so expect treatment sessions to be up to 1 hour. Several treatments will be required, and homecare advice and protocols provided.
Any discomfort will depend on the specific treatment, the needle-based applications use fine needles and although the scalp can be sensitive, these are usually well tolerated. Numbing cream can be applied if needed. The LED light treatment feels warm and is relaxing.
Recovery time is limited post hair restoration treatments. The area may feel tender and sensitive for a little while afterwards, and you may experience some mild redness and swelling post mesotherapy or PRP injections, or after micro-needling. The use of LED light means that this is reduced as it encourages a healing response.
