Scar on stomach, about to go under micro-needling treatment

We help you feel confident in your own skin

We help you feel confident in your own skin

stretch marks, scarring, fine lines and wrinkles

Natural rejuvenation with minimal epidermal damage

A minimally invasive cosmetic procedure using tiny needles to cause minute punctures that stimulate the production of your body’s own collagen to improve and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring caused by acne, chicken pox or surgery.

Stimulating your body's own natural collagen to repair and rejuvenate

At Blemish Clinic, we use the latest technology for our micro-needling collagen induction therapy treatments in the form of an automated skin needling device called Rejuvapen.

The Rejvapen medical device is pen-shaped with a needle cartridge at the tip that contains 12 very fine needles. We can adjust the depth and speed of the micro-needles to treat different areas of the face and body effectively and comfortably.

Treatment produces minute channels of controlled minor trauma to break down old scar tissue, pigmentation, and other signs of ageing, whilst also stimulating the skin cells to proliferate and produce new collagen to repair and rejuvenate.

We use Rejuvapen in combination with topical mesotherapy products and platelet rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of conditions including wrinkles, dark spots, problems with uneven pigmentation, male balding, alopecia, and skin rejuvenation. We also combine it with light therapy to optimise results and can treat any combination of the face, neck, and décolletage, alongside areas of the body such as the abdomen and thighs.

FAQs

By delivering precise and controlled ‘damage’ to the dermal layer of the skin, using micro-needles, we can encourage the body’s natural wound healing responses to leap into action. This makes the body produce increased quantities of new collagen and elastin – the building blocks of healthy skin – to generate new skin cells and ‘repair’ itself. Soon afterwards, skin becomes thicker, plumper, and more youthful.

Micro-needling is mostly used on the face and neck, but this procedure can be carried out anywhere on the body and is often used to reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the lower body or pigmentation across the chest. It can be used on women and men, plus all skin types or ethnicities.

The Rejuvapen automated micro-needling device houses 12 fine needles within a single-patient use cartridge that is hygienically attached to the tip of the pen. The cartridge and the needles move over the surface of the skin during treatment to create many microscopic channels or columns of controlled damage at various depths of penetration, ranging from 0.01- 2.5mm. This controlled trauma to the uppermost skin layers causes a cascade of natural skin healing actions within the skin.

Micro-needling using an automated medical device like Rejuvapen can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns on the face, neck, décolletage, and body, including:

  • uneven and poor-quality skin texture,
  • fine lines and wrinkles,
  • hyperpigmentation or darker patches of skin, including sun or age spots in fairer skin types, or complications of acne scarring in darker skin types,
  • hair loss,
  • scarring, including acne and chicken pox scars, as well as scars from surgery or trauma, and
  • stretch marks on the thighs or stomach.

Because treatment relies on stimulating the body to repair itself, it offers a chemical free solution for treating many skin concerns. In some cases, we may offer to combine micro-needling with other topical serums or light-based treatments to further improve results.

Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment times vary, but expect the session to last at least 30 minutes. The number and frequency of treatments required to address your skin concern will be discussed during your consultation with a member of our expert team.

It is very important to us that our patients are comfortable during treatment, and for this reason we use a topical anaesthetic or numbing cream when performing micro-needling treatments, so there is little discomfort or pain for you during treatment. Once the effect of the anaesthesia wears off, you may find that the area treated is sensitive for 24 hours. Our team can advise on any aftercare to ensure you remain comfortable once you leave the clinic.

There are few contraindications or reasons why you would not be suitable for treatment with Rejuvapen if you are generally healthy. It can be used on all skin types, genders, and ethnicities. However, if you are currently pregnant or breast feeding, we will not be able to treat you until after this period in your life.

Micro-needling treatment cannot be performed if you have a history of keloid (raised) scarring or scleroderma, or if you currently have an active fungal, bacterial, or viral infection in the area to be treated, an example would be the herpes simplex virus, commonly known as cold sores. Other underlying medical conditions may make you unsuitable for treatment which is why a full medical history will be undertaken during the consultation prior to treatment.

Initial redness will fade after treatment and your skin will look more radiant, almost immediately. Over the next 2-4 weeks, as the skin starts to repair itself, skin quality will improve and it will become thicker, plumper and more youthful. You may need more than one treatment to achieve the optimal results for your skin concern.

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment, but you should expect some redness and sensitivity with recovery taking 24 hours, or up to a few days for some people. Most patients can return to work and normal activities the day after treatment. If you have any concerns, we are always on hand with help and advice.

You will be given pre-treatment advice to follow before you embark on your micro-needling treatment programme. This will depend on the area being treated and the skin concern being targeted but will usually involve:

  • the avoidance of Laser/IPL treatments for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure,
  • the avoidance of electrolysis, depilatory creams, waxing and sugaring in the area to be treated for 5-7 days before treatment,
  • the avoidance of shaving the area on the day of treatment to minimise skin irritation,
  • the avoidance of exfoliating scrubs, chemical peels, or abrasive cleaners, or the use of topical retinols for 5-7 days before treatment,
  • practicing good sun protection application for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure,
  • cleansing your face gently with only water and using a simple moisturiser the night before treatment, and
  • the avoidance of wearing make-up (foundation etc.) on the day of treatment.

You will be given post-treatment advice to follow in the days after your micro-needling treatment which will ask you to:

  • avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen) for one week after the treatment – you may take paracetamol as a painkiller if you experience any soreness,
  • avoid rubbing, scratching, massaging, picking, or scrubbing the treated area for a few days,
  • wash only with tepid water and avoid the use of exfoliating face washes,
  • avoid using arnica or bromelain creams on the treated area – these may interfere with the stimulation of the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin remodelling,
  • avoid direct sun exposure on the treated area for at least 2 weeks, and always use a sunblock (SPF25 or higher) and wear a hat if you are outside.

For most people, the effects of a single treatment of micro-needling will last 4-6 weeks. However, we will usually recommend a programme of treatments to achieve a more significant and longer-lasting result.

The natural repair and wound healing processes within the body can take 2-4 weeks to show improvements in skin quality and this continues to increase with more treatment sessions over time. You can expect to see your best results 6-12 months after your final treatment session.

The amount of treatments required, over an exact time frame will depend on the skin concerns being addressed by this treatment, alongside how well your skin responds. Treatment sessions are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart and you may require 3-6 treatments, with regular maintenance sessions to ensure your results last longer.

We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
