Omnilux light technology
Light Therapy
The Omnilux light technology, using red, blue, and infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs) has been validated in more than 40 peer-reviewed published studies and has been clinically proven to stimulate the body’s own natural healing responses to help counter the effects of sun damage and ageing, treat acne prone skin, and a variety of other skin conditions and dermatological problems.
Using Omnilux light technology to stimulate the body’s own natural healing
Omnilux is a pioneer in the use of LED or light emitting diode technology for aesthetic and dermatology treatments and is regarded as the gold standard, most powerful, most researched, and most trusted brand of phototherapy systems. It is for this reason that Jan Birch, dermatology specialist consultant nurse has chosen to use it at the Blemish Clinic.
The light emitted from the LEDs, as individual wavelengths, or colours of light, has been proven to stimulate certain repair cells within the body, improve blood flow, clear acne-causing bacteria, and help with the penetration and activation of skincare products applied to the skin. Omnilux Light Therapy is used in the treatment of acne, skin rejuvenation, wound healing, and can be used in combination with special light sensitive topical agents as a treatment called Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) that is used to target more complex dermatology concerns including cancerous and pre-cancerous skin lesions.

What Our Clients Say…
“My daughter recently completed a course of light therapy treatment for her acne. The change in her skin has been quite dramatic, the acne has gone and it now looks much clearer. She is now less anxious and has become much more confident and happier in herself. The treatment was worth every penny and Jan and the staff at the clinic couldn’t have been more helpful.”

FAQs
What is Omnilux Light Therapy?
Acne is a common skin problem that affects most teenagers, meaning that it is predominantly viewed as an adolescent problem, however, it can persist into adulthood.
What can Omnilux Light Therapy treat?
Omnilux Light Therapy using red, blue, and infrared LED light can be used as a treatment tool for skin conditions and traumas including:
- Ageing – fine lines and wrinkles, poor texture, and dull complexion
- Sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and dyschromia (patchy pigmentation)
- Active, mild to moderate inflammatory and cystic acne
- Wound healing including burns and scars
- and certain skin cancers
It can also be used in the management of rosacea to reduce symptoms. The anti-inflammatory effects of the Omnilux Light Therapy can produce prolonged remissions from rosacea because the LED light reduces redness and generally enhances the overall facial appearance for rosacea sufferers.
How often should you have LED light therapy?
Different people react in different ways, depending on their age and the condition of their skin, so a bespoke treatment programme will be discussed with you in consultation with our skin experts.
A course of Omnilux red light therapy for skin rejuvenation comes as recommended in a package of 12 treatments, 2-3 times per week.
Blue and red light combined for acne treatment is available as a package of 10 treatments, to be used twice per week.
Top up or maintenance treatment can then be scheduled as required, depending on your underlying skin concern.
Am I suitable for Omnilux Light Therapy?
Omnilux Light Therapy is suitable for men and women of all skin types and colours.
If you suffer from mild to moderate inflammatory acne, have anti-ageing concerns or are troubled by pigmentation, then we can treat these with LED light, either on its own or in combination with other skin treatments.
A full medical history will be taken during your consultation with our dermatology specialist consultant nurse who has a specialist interest in photobiology and decades of experience in the study and use of LED light therapy.
If you have a sensitivity to light, such as epilepsy or are taking medicine that causes photosensitivity (e.g., the antibiotic Tetracycline or certain steroids) then you will not be suitable for light therapy and we will suggest alternative treatments.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will be advised to wait until after this time before commencing LED light therapy.
Does LED light hurt?
Patients who have Omnilux Light Therapy often report treatment as very relaxing and warm, and some have fallen asleep during treatment. It is not painful because no heat is generated from the procedure so it cannot burn.
Is Omnilux Light Therapy safe?
Omnilux Light Therapy is a very safe procedure. You will be asked to wear special protective eyewear during treatment to protect your eyes from the bright light.
The treatment has numerous clearances and approvals by the American FDA and the Australian TGA, as well as UK and European authorities.
This LED light therapy simply stimulates the cells in the body to promote its own healing.
What results can I expect from Omnilux Light Therapy?
We recommend a course of Omnilux LED light treatments to address most skin concerns, although you can see a result after one treatment in terms of skin freshness.
Clinically trials have shown that Omnilux can produce a 75% improvement in skin smoothness and a statistically significant reduction in wrinkles around the eyes. Patients also report lighter and brighter skin, reduced dyschromia, and overall texture improvement on the face.
Clinical studies also show evidence of up to 81% clearance of inflammatory acne lesions 12 weeks after completion of a course of light therapy.
How long does it last?
Treatment with Omnilux Light Therapy has been proven to show that several treatment sessions, approximately 2-3 per week, spread over a 4-week period are recommended to accelerate the visible results and cell stimulation required for rejuvenation, wound healing, and the clearance of acne-causing bacteria and inflammatory lesions.
Once your initial results have been reached, we look to maintaining those results longer term with regular follow-up appointments and treatments every 4-6 weeks, if required and dependent on the primary reason for your treatment.
How much will my treatment cost?
We believe in being transparent with our prices and want you to be fully aware and comfortable with the cost of your treatment. A full list of our prices can be found here. We will always agree a final price with you though before treatment commences.
Treatments to manage, control, and improve mild, moderate, or severe acne in adults and young people.
A bespoke acne treatment plan that may include a combination of home use skincare and phototherapy, alongside medication and in-clinic treatments such as skin peels and photo dynamic therapy. Patients will be under medical supervision throughout their journey.
Acne and skin health will improve and become manageable. Regular maintenance and a home regime will be required to control future outbreaks.
Treatment times vary but be prepared for an at-home skincare regime that must be followed, alongside appointments for clinic treatments and review.
The underlying discomfort from acne itself will be reduced with treatment, however, there may be some mild discomfort or irritation as your skin adjusts to skincare regimes or skin peel treatments. Some medication can cause side effects, but pain is unlikely. Light treatments are usually relaxing in nature.
Acne treatments may cause additional redness and sensitivity as skin health improves and the symptoms of acne improve. Recovery includes a resolution of excess sebum and acne causing bacteria on the skin, which will happen over several weeks.
